Seventh Public Hearing of the Committee on Constitutional and Legislative Issues Held in Kragujevac
The Committee on Constitutional and Legislative Issues held the seventh public hearing on the topic: “Presentation of the Draft Law amending and modifying the Law on the Unified Electoral Roll, submitted to the Working Group for the Improvement of the Electoral Process on 11 June 2025 by MP Ugljesa Mrdic, member of the Working Group” on 23 June 2025 in Kragujevac City Assembly
Mrdic pointed out that the draft law has so far undergone five amendments in order to align it with the recommendations of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), which also gave a positive opinion on the proposal. The amendments aim to improve the transparency and reliability of the voter register, as well as to improve the electoral process as a whole.
As highlighted, the proposed amendments aim to increase the transparency and up-to-dateness of the voter register, in line with the recommendations of the ODIHR, which gave a positive opinion on the draft law.
Key innovations include:
- obligation to publish weekly data on the number of voters and changes in the voter register;
- enabling citizens to gain insight into basic data on voters by polling station;
- expanded access to data for members of the Republic Electoral Commission;
- the formation of a new Commission for Audit, Verification and Control of the Accuracy and Updating of the Voter Register, whose members are appointed by the National Assembly.
Committee Chairperson Milica Nikolic, announced that a final public hearing on this topic will be held in Belgrade on 24 June.
The gathering was attended by MPs, representatives of institutions, experts, as well as representatives of domestic and international organisations.
