111th Sitting of the Committee on Constitutional and Legislative Issues

At the sitting held on 14 June 2019, the members of the Committee on Constitutional and Legislative Issues considered the Proposal to Amend the Constitution of the Republic of Serbia, submitted by the Government.


The proposal was presented by Minister of Justice Nela Kuburovic who said that it concerned the judiciary and position of public prosecution. Minister Kuburovic said that by signing the Stabilisation and Association Agreement Serbia took on the obligation to work on strengthening its institutions and the rule of law, and improving the independence and efficiency of the judiciary.

Following a discussion, the Committee ascertained the Proposal to Amend the Constitution of the Republic of Serbia, duly submitted by the party authorised by the Constitution.

Article 203 of the Constitution of the Republic of Serbia stipulates that if the National Assembly adopts the proposal for amending the Constitution, by a two-¬third majority of the total number of deputies, an act on amending the Constitution shall be drafted, that is, considered. The National Assembly adopts the act on amending the Constitution by a two-¬third majority of the total number of deputies and may decide to have it endorsed in the republic referendum by the citizens.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairman Djordje Komlenski and attended by the following Committee members and deputy members: Nedjo Jovanovic, Vesna Nikolic Vukajlovic, Krsto Janjusevic, Vjerica Radeta, Jelena Zaric Kovacevic, Petar Petrovic, Aleksandra Majkic, Gordana Comic, Dr Dragana Barisic, Vesna Markovic, Srbislav Filipovic, Bajro Gegic, Dr Balint Pasztor, Milena Corilic, as well as MPs Tatjana Macura, Natasa Vuckovic, Aleksandar Seselj, Dr Aleksandar Martinovic and Prof. Dr Marko Atlagic.
