The sitting was attended by Director of UNICEF Serbia Regina De Dominicis who spoke about the 30th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and UNICEF’s cooperation with the National Assembly.

This was followed by a report on the student parliament session held under the auspices of Children’s Week at the National Assembly and the results of the research with the topic “Children and the media”. The results of the research were presented by Executive Director of the Friends of the Children of Serbia Iva Erakovic and associates. The survey of 56 schoolchildren from different parts of Serbia showed that they do use traditional media, mostly television (89.3%), followed by the radio (52.7%) and finally print media (42.9%). High schoolers are aware of their good and bad sides and mostly use media to follow entertainment-related content. The participants said that they get their information on social events and current news via the Internet and believe that traditional media lack enough quality content for children who are often portrayed as victims. They also said that they use the Internet and social networks almost on a daily basis and half had no formal training on their use. According to the research, high schoolers believe that before they venture on the Internet children need to be taught how to use it correctly and safely, to protect their personal data, recognize fake information and be careful about the content they post.
