Belgrade Students Visit National Assembly

Students of the Belgrade University’s Faculty of Political Sciences discussed the parliament’s mode of operation and its role in Serbia’s political life with the deputies, today at the National Assembly House.

Students of the Belgrade University’s Faculty of Political Sciences discussed the parliament’s mode of operation and its role in Serbia’s political life with the deputies, today at the National Assembly House. The meeting was organised as part of project Student Question Institute.

The students were mostly interested in the deputies’ views regarding the blank resignations, public property law, as well as amendment of the electoral system and the number of deputies. They also asked why the amendment that would exempt employers from paying contributions if they employ students was not adopted. The deputies did not endorse the proposal because, as they said, employers would then employ only students. As regards the blank resignations, they stressed that a free term of office means that the deputies can perform their duty independently, without the influence of political parties or tycoons. To the question whether the number of deputies would be cut, National Assembly Secretary General Veljko Odalovic said that the Serbian Assembly has the fewest and least paid deputies in the region.

Deputies Gordana Comic, Vesna Pesic, Nikola Novakovic, Miljan Randjelovic, Vesna Marjanovic, Elvira Kovacs, Milos Aligrudic and Dragan Stevanovic took part in the meeting with the Belgrade students.
