Bozic: Most Rigorously Watched Election in History

MP Sandra Bozic, head of the standing delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly took part in the OSCE PA Winter Meeting in Vienna.

On the occasion, she spoke at the Joint Session of the General Committees attended by over 300 parliamentarians from 50 OSCE member states.

Bozic addressed the committees on item 3 of the agenda - the report of the observation mission for the elections in Serbia.

In her speech, Bozic emphasised that Serbia had always listened to ODIHR's recommendations regarding the improvement of the electoral process, the result of which was excellent cooperation with OSCE representatives, as well as the implementation of a significant part of the recommendations.

She especially pointed out that the number of observers and controllers in the recent elections makes it clear that the supervision left no opportunities for omissions, which is supported by the fact that there have never been fewer objections and appeals sent to the court and the REC. She particularly emphasised the fact that the opposition had almost 90% of its own controllers at the polling stations and that there were no objections regarding irregularities in the minutes.

She went on to strongly reject the tendentious and malicious claims of some opposition leaders about the so-called phantom voters, which was joined by some foreign observers. In addition, she explicitly emphasised that such baseless accusations lead to the conclusion that it is a systematic and orchestrated attack aimed at collapsing the democratic institutions of the Republic of Serbia and undermining the electoral will of the citizens, as well as influencing the electoral process.

"The opposition politicians were the ones who demanded early elections and yet they are the ones who explicitly told some of the international election observers the day before the vote that they would not recognize the results," Bozic said, referring to the Serbian opposition’s fallacious attacks regarding the election process.

Finally, Bozic pointed out that this is a pattern already seen before which leads to the creation of negative opinion in the roughest possible way through various media whose aim is to incite unrest in the public and spread misinformation.
