Culture and Information Committee Meets with Chinese Press Delegation

The Chairman and members of the Culture and Information Committee met today at the National Assembly with a press delegation of the Chinese State Council Information Office visiting Serbia to learn more about the culture, tradition and the media in Serbia.

The Chairman of the Culture and Information Committee Mirko Krlic informed the Chinese delegation on the Committee’s mode of operation and scope saying that the coming period will see the adoption of a new media strategy. Krlic thanked China for its support of Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty saying how important it is to Serbia that the Chinese media follow the situation in Kosovo-Metohija and report on it.

The head of the Chinese press delegation Gao Anming said that the visit to Serbia has helped the representatives of the Chinese media learn more about the country’s culture and development of the media in it, highlighting the importance of media cooperation for the advancement of relations and understanding between the two nations. He said that the Chinese media consider Serbia and its people friends and have in the last few years been focusing on Serbia’s development.

The Committee members and guests agreed that Serbia and China enjoy the highest level of economic relations, but that there is ample room to deepen cultural and media cooperation.

The meeting was attended by Culture and Information Committee members Natasa Mihailovic Vacic, Snezana Paunovic, Dragana Kostic and Dr Predrag Jelenkovic who said that the closeness between the two nations has been proved in the most difficult times for Serbia. They went on to emphasize the significance of the media and cultural cooperation conducted via the Radio Television of Serbia and the Chinese National Televising and Chinese International Radio, adding that the National Assembly - Chinese National People’s Congress Cooperation Commission could spur its further development.
