As part of an ongoing programme designed to acquaint students with state institutions, a group of students from the Eastern Serbian town of Dimitrovgrad, accompanied by their teachers, paid a visit to the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia. During a two-hour tour of the parliament building, the students observed a session of the Assembly from the gallery in the main hall, toured the building’s most important spaces, and attended a presentation of the parliament’s activities.
The Chairman of the National Assembly, Predrag Markovic, greeted the visitors and spent half an hour talking to them; several deputies took part in the conversation as well.
After lunch in the Assembly restaurant, the students continued their tour of state institutions.
The Dimitrovgrad students, who attend Civics lessons, and who have recently set up a School Parliament, found their visit to the Assembly a very satisfying experience. For many of them this was also the first opportunity to see Belgrade, the nation’s capital.
The programme of acquainting students with state institutions is organised by the OSCE Mission to Serbia and Montenegro. The students’ schedule includes visiting the Parliament of the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro and the presidential palace.
