Dr Orlic: We Appreciate Cuba’s Being on the Side of Law and Justice

“The Republic of Serbia highly appreciates Cuba’s principled stance respecting our sovereignty and territorial integrity which shows it to be on the side of law and justice”, stressed the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic in the fare-well meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Serbia, H.E. Gustavo Trista del Todo in the National Assembly today.

The officials opined that the relations between Serbia and Cuba are traditionally good, sincere and friendly at all levels and expressed hope that they will develop further and improve in the future. They also declared as important the mutual support both in the UN and in other international organizations on issues of importance to both countries.

"The National Assembly is very interested in strengthening parliamentary cooperation further at all levels, especially at the level of parliamentary friendship groups, as evidenced by the fact that the PFG with Cuba in the Serbian Parliament has over 40 members. I am convinced that there will be many opportunities to maintain the achieved level of cooperation, as well as to further improve it," said Dr Orlic.

The National Assembly Speaker went on to say that last year marked a significant jubilee - 120 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, and thanked Ambassador del Todo for his personal contribution to the additional improvement of the traditionally friendly relations between the two countries.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Serbia H.E. Gustavo Trista del Todo said that there is great interest in the Cuban Parliament for cooperation with the National Assembly, adding that his country maintains its principled stance of supporting Serbia in the matter of Kosovo-Metohija. He stressed that he would be leaving Serbia with the most beautiful impressions and expressed his belief that cooperation would continue at all levels in the future.

In the course of the meeting, the National Assembly Speaker and the Cuban Ambassador also talked about strengthening economic relations and cooperation between Serbia and Cuba, and especially about improving and developing cooperation in the field of tourism.
