Dr Vladimir Orlic Meets with Bundestag Vice-President

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic met today with Bundestag Vice-President Aydan Ozoguz. In the course of the conversation, the officials affirmed the good bilateral relations between the two countries, accompanied by an intense political dialogue.

Dr Orlic thanked Germany for the support it provides to Serbia on its European path, recalling our country’s commitment and progress in all areas affected by the reform process. He stressed that the European integration of our country remains burdened by the issue of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, which is being conducted under very difficult conditions. "The immediate formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities is a commitment that must be honoured but one which Pristina is avoiding every way it can, and has in recent days even intensified its dangerous moves and attempts to cause escalations which would later be used it as an alibi for avoiding its obligations. Pristina is brutally threatening the Serbian people of Kosovo-Metohija on a daily basis, their elementary security and their basic rights. Serbs are arrested, sentenced to prison terms without being found guilty and without any evidence, they send uniformed thugs to the north of Kosovo, armed to the teeth, to harass mothers with children to the north of Kosovo. Serbs are denied even the rights to speech and opinion, which is unthinkable anywhere in 21st century Europe. In these difficult conditions, we responsibly pursue the policy of the President of the Republic, Aleksandar Vucic, committed to preserving peace and stability for everyone, because we know that without peace there is no progress, and no life," said Dr Orlic.

The Bundestag Vice-President emphasised the importance of the parliament's control function over the government in a functioning democracy. She also emphasised the importance of an open and honest dialogue to preserve peace for everyone in the Western Balkans, at the same time stressing the importance the region has for the European Union.

In the course of the meeting, the officials praised the dynamic economic cooperation between the two countries, especially the record results achieved in trade and investment. They also highlighted the willingness to further strengthen parliamentary cooperation at all levels and through it contribute to the political rapprochement of Serbia and Germany. The meeting with the Bundestag Vice-President was also attended by Aleksandra Tomic, Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Federal Republic of Germany.
