Dr Vladimir Orlic Receives Norwegian Ambassador in Farewell Visit
The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic received the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway Jørn Eugen Gjelstad in farewell visit, thanking him for his previous engagement and contributions to furthering the bilateral relations between the two countries.
"The official visit of the President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic to Norway in November last year gave a strong impetus to their development and the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia is also ready to lend its contribution," said Dr Orlic.
Dr Orlic also took the opportunity to thank Norway for the solidarity and expert assistance it provided to Serbia at the time of the tragedies that happened at the beginning of May, for the joint cooperation on numerous projects, as well as for the support for Serbia’s policy of peace and stability.
"In Kosovo-Metohija, we face Albin Kurti’s open attempts at ethnic cleansing. We cannot and will not allow that. President of the Republic Aleksandar Vucic announced that he will request an urgent meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and an urgent session of the UN Security Council. We will demand the full implementation of the provisions of SC Resolution 1244. It is important that everyone understands the seriousness of the situation and Kurti's intentions to lead us into war with his dangerous moves. He openly persecutes Serbs, prevents people from getting food and medicine. Everyone can and must condemn it," said Dr Orlic.
Ambassador Gjelstad expressed Norway's readiness to improve the comprehensive cooperation with Serbia, emphasising the importance of partnership and the results achieved by the two countries in the field of economy. He particularly referred to cooperation in the energy sector, where, he pointed out, Serbia has recorded great success and laid the foundations for continued development. He took the opportunity to praise the "Open Balkans" initiative, pointing out all the benefits it brings to the countries participating in it.
In the course of the meeting, the Ambassador expressed his understanding of the situation in Kosovo-Metohija, stressing the importance of respecting agreements in order to preserve peace in the region.
