Drecun and Kislyak Discuss Improving Serbia-Russia Strategic Partnership

The Chairman of the Committee on Kosovo-Metohija and Head of the PFG with Russia MA Milovan Drecun met today at the National Assembly House with the Deputy Chairman of the Russian Federal Council International Affairs Committee Sergei Kislyak to discuss how to improve the strategic partnership between the two countries.

Milovan Drecun said that interparliamentary relations are an important segment of the strategic partnership between Serbia and Russia highlighting how vital that the parliamentarians’ mutual support in international parliamentary forums is.

Serbia’s complex geopolitical environment dictates the country’s foreign policy orientation and priorities viz. EU accession and military neutrality, said Drecun, however this does not impede but rather expands the comprehensive strategic partnership with the Russian Federation.

Sergei Kislyak said that Russia respects Serbia’s choice to join the EU and supports its European integration, in view of the excellent relations with Russia. Speaking of the possible improvement of interparliamentary relations, Drecun said it would be good to intensify cooperation via the two parliament’s friendship groups. He said that in addition to political ties, the parliamentarians should work toward advancing economic cooperation as well, as much as possible. Drecun also said that there is room to boost Russian investment in Serbia, as well as for joint ventures of Serbian and Russian firms on third markets, especially in the field of military industry.
