Dubravka Filipovski at Interparliamentary Conference Under Auspices of Romania’s EU Council Presidency

MP Dubravka Filipovski, Deputy Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, is taking part in the Interparliamentary Conference on the Common Foreign and Security Policy and the Common Security and Defence Policy organized under the auspices of Romania’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union in Bucharest on 7-8 March 2019.

Among the topics of the Conference are: a credible perspective for enlargement and a strengthened EU commitment to the Western Balkans; EU Strategy for the Danube Region; the Eastern Partnership – 10 years of European aspirations; Common Security and Defence Policy Triangle and the strategic importance of the Black Sea on the EU agenda.

Taking part in the session on the credible perspective for enlargement and astrengthened EU commitment to the Western Balkans, Dubravka Filipovski emphasized Serbia’s commitment to EU accession, saying that a credible enlargement policy is a strategic investment in the security and prosperity of Europe as a whole and the EU would not be complete without the Western Balkan countries. She said that tying the normalization of Belgrade-Pristina relations in with the process of opening new negotiation chapters can only be detrimental and counterproductive for Serbia’s European integration process, which is not in the EU’s interest. The Belgrade-Pristina dialogue is at a standstill because the of Pristina’s unilateral decisions and unfulfilled obligations which are the crucial disruptive element in the dialogue and trust-building process.

Tanja Miscevic, Chief of the Negotiating Team for the Accession of the Republic of Serbia to the European Union, was one of the keynote speakers on the topic.

Taking part in the workshop on the EU Strategy for the Danube Region, Dubravka Filipovski emphasized Serbia’s readiness to continue with the revision of the Danube Strategy Action Plan with the European and regional partners, stressing that, in the implementation of the Danube Strategy, three issues are vital for Serbia: joint projects and exchange of experiences, common security of the Danube and cross-border cooperation and strengthening the Parliament’s control role in the implementation of the Danube Strategy.
