The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic met today with the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Arab Republic of Egypt Hanafy Ali el-Gebaly, currently in official visit to the Republic of Serbia, who, at the very beginning of the meeting, conveyed the greetings of the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and of the Egyptian people.
The officials expressed satisfaction with the reunion, which is yet another confirmation of the intensive political dialogue. Speaker Gebaly said that Egypt is proud of its partnership and friendship with Serbia, especially the fact that this year marks 115 years since the establishment of bilateral relations between the two countries, although the ties between the Serbian and Egyptian peoples are centuries old.
They jointly assessed that the respect and trust between the presidents of Serbia and Egypt, Aleksandar Vucic and Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, as well as the results of el-Sisi's historic visit to Belgrade last year, give a strong impulse to the relations today. Dr Orlic said that today, thanks to successful leadership, the two countries are making significant progress in numerous areas, proving their commitment to their own development, the well-being of their citizens and even better days to come.
Speaker Gebaly said that one of the goals of his visit is to strengthen cooperation at the parliamentary level, to support the continuation of the intensive exchange of visits at all levels, as well as to strengthen communication between working bodies. Dr Orlic confirmed that, for its part, the National Assembly will continue to contribute to all-round cooperation, especially emphasising the fact that in the current legislature the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Arab Republic of Egypt consists of more than 50 MPs, ranking among the largest ones.
In the course of the meeting, the officials also discussed cooperation in the fields of economy, agriculture, construction and science and exchanged opinions on the current challenges facing Serbia and Egypt. Dr Orlic used the opportunity to inform Speaker Gebaly about the difficult situation in the southern Serbian province, as well as the efforts of the Republic of Serbia to preserve peace and stability. Speaker Gebaly said that Egypt understands the position of the Republic of Serbia on the issue of Kosovo-Metohija and supports all efforts to preserve peace in the region.
At the very end of the meeting, Speaker Gebaly and Orlic agreed that the ceremonial opening of the Egyptian Street in Belgrade planned for tomorrow would be a symbolic proof of the strong friendship between the two countries.
The meeting with the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Arab Republic of Egypt in the National Assembly House was also attended by National Assembly Deputy Speaker Snezana Paunovic, Head of the PFG with Egypt Dragan Markovic, National Assembly Secretary General Srdjan Smiljanic, as well as the Egyptian Ambassador to Serbia H.E.
