European Integration Committee Meets with Danish Minister for European Affairs
The Chairperson of the European Integration Committee Elvira Kovacs and the Committee members met today in the National Assembly with the Minister for European Affairs of the Kingdom of Denmark Marie Bjerre and the delegation of the Danish Parliament’s European Affairs Committee.
The participants of the meeting discussed the Serbia's European integration prospects and the EU enlargement policy during Denmark's presidency of the European Council in the second half of 2025.
Elvira Kovacs spoke of the role the National Assembly and the European Integration Committee play in the process of European integration, both from the aspect of harmonising domestic legislation with the European and from the aspect of exercising their control function. Kovacs pointed out that membership in the European Union is important for raising our citizens’ living standards, however their Euroscepticism is growing, because the process is taking a long time and there is no positive signal from the EU, as no new negotiation clusters have been opened for three years, since the adoption of the Constitutional reforms.
Minister Mari Bjerre said that Denmark supports the European path of Serbia and the entire Western Balkans region, in the circumstances of the re-actualisation of the EU enlargement policy.
The meeting was also attended by members of the European Integration Committee Dubravka Filipovski, Sanja Dzajic, Ana Jakovljevic and Ana Miljanic, who exchanged opinions with the guests about the reform processes in Serbia, especially regarding the rule of law, freedom of the media and the fight against corruption, as well as current environmental issues. They also pointed to the situation and difficult conditions in which the Serbian population lives in Kosovo-Metohija.
The meeting also touched the significance of regional cooperation for the stability of the region and for its EU prospects.
The members of the Danish European Affairs Committee expressed interest in developing bilateral relations with the colleagues from the European Integration Committee and cooperation in the process of European integration.
