Committee Chairman Milos Aligrudic briefed the guests on the current political situation in Serbia and the work of the supreme legislative body, underlining the commitment of the majority of Serbian MPs to continue Serbia's European integration process and the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina. Chairman Aligrudic also informed the guests about the different opinion of the Democratic Party of Serbia, which he is a member of, on these issues. He also deemed it necessary to improve Serbia’s relationship with all Nordic countries, accompanied by the mutually beneficial raising of the parliamentary cooperation between Serbia and Finland onto a higher level.
The members of the Finnish parliamentary delegation shared their support of Serbia’s efforts on the way to European Union accession. The two delegations exchanged opinions on the work of the Serbian and Finnish Parliaments' Foreign Affairs Committees and their communication with he representatives of the executive.
The members of the Foreign Affairs Committee informed the guests on Serbia’s firm commitment to tackle corruption and crime, at the same time discussing the representation of women in the Serbian Parliament and the need to establish an independent judiciary as a pre-requisite for the creation of a favourable environment for foreign investment into Serbia.
It was also concluded that there is room for improvement of the economic cooperation between Serbia and Finland and the first step toward it, said Aligrudic, could be ratifying the Agreement with Finland on mutual stimulation of investment (of 2005) the ratification of which by the Finnish Parliament would be mutually beneficial for both states.
The meeting was also attended by Committee members Marija Obradovic, Aleksandra Djurovic and Dragan Sormaz.
