Foreign Affairs Committee Delegation Visits Hungary

A delegation of the National Assembly’s Foreign Affairs Committee comprising Aleksandra Djurovic, Committee Chairperson – heading the delegation, Prof. Dr Milorad Mijatovic, Committee member, and Prof. Dr Janko Veselinovic, substitute Committee member, are in official bilateral visit to the Hungarian Parliament, 4-5 May 2015, at the invitation of the Chairman of the Hungarian Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs Zsolt Nemeth.

On the first day, the Foreign Affairs Committee delegation talked with the members of the Hungarian Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs and the members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Serbia. The officials confirmed the exceptionally good bilateral relations between the two countries and the Hungarian parliamentarians’ support of Serbia’s European integration. They agreed that intensive parliamentary cooperation could contribute to the further strengthening of relations in the fields of economy, culture, security and border safety, and that national minorities are the bridge of cooperation between the two countries and nations.

They also spoke about cooperation in the field of transport infrastructure, cross-border cooperation, opening of new border crossings and energy. The members of the National Assembly’s Foreign Affairs Committee and the Hungarian Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs urged for the reinstitution of the two countries’ mixed commission for minorities. They opined that the two foreign affairs committees should push for regular cooperation and agreed to have reciprocal meetings once a year.

On the second day of the visit the delegation will meet with Parliament Deputy Speaker Gergely Gulyas, Spokesperson of the Serbian national minority at the Hungarian Parliament Ljubomir Aleksov and State Secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office for EU Affairs Szabolcs Takacs.
