Foreign Affairs Committee Members Talk to PACE President Jean-Claude Mignon

The members of the Foreign Affairs Committee met today, at the National Assembly House, with the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Jean-Claude Mignon.

Talking about the monitoring process, Mignon stated that, since he is aware it is a sensitive topic for Serbia, the process is there to follow the assumption of the obligations Serbia undertook for the duration of the monitoring. Mignon underlined the fact that the PACE monitoring reports are positive as encouraging for Serbia, commending its positive change of attitude as regards the Kosovo issue. Mignon relayed PACE’s support for Serbia’s efforts toward European Union membership, expressing readiness to meet with the Foreign Affairs Committee more often to discuss specific issues of interest for Serbia.
On the behalf of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Committee member Marija Obradovic briefed the PACE delegation on the priorities of the current parliamentary legislature, listing the improvement of parliamentary diplomacy among the most important ones. She also pointed out the importance of the recently established parliamentary friendship groups and the Women’s Parliamentary Network at the National Assembly. Obradovic also informed the guests about the Committee’s efforts in the sphere of regional cooperation, emphasising the importance of the regional initiative at the level of foreign affairs committees of Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro aimed at resolving the numerous outstanding issues troubling the region.

The meeting was also attended by Committee members Dragoljub Micunovic, Sanda Raskovic Ivic, Natasa Vuckovic, Maja Gojkovic, Irena Vujovic, Branko Ruzic, Branislav Mitrovic and Milica Dronjak.
