Giaufret Delivers European Commission Annual Report on Serbia to National Assembly Speaker
The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic met today with the Head of EU Mission to Serbia Ambassador Emanuele Giaufret who delivered the European Commission Report on Serbia for 2022.
The Assembly Speaker thanked the European Commission for the hard work invested in this comprehensive Report. "The assessment not positive only in one area - alignment with the European foreign and security policy, while progress has generally been noted in all other areas. The Serbian Assembly’s significant contribution concerning constitutional changes, judiciary reform and results achieved through inter-party dialogue has also been noted. We are also pleased to note the fact that the European Commission has confirmed its readiness to open Cluster 3 - Competitiveness and inclusive growth. Progress was also noted in areas from Cluster 1 concerning the rule of law - the fight against corruption, organised crime and political criteria," said Dr Orlic.
The Assembly Speaker opined that it is always important to emphasise responsibility for the stagnation in the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina. "We should be fair and say why there is no progress on this issue." Belgrade is always constructive, shows seriousness and responsibility, while the Pristina side is doing its best to obstruct dialogue, even openly threatening to cancel the commitments," said Dr Orlic.
He added that Serbia's strategic commitment remains membership in the European Union and that once it is elected the Serbian Government would work on this issue in addition to the National Assembly. "In that sense, Serbia is ready to share its experiences with other countries and provide support on their European path," said Dr Orlic.
