Gojkovic Begins Visit to Kingdom of Sweden with Audience with King Carl XVI Gustaf
The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic began her official two-day visit to the Kingdom of Sweden with an audience with the King of Sweden Carl XVI Gustaf at the Royal Palace in Stockholm.
Gojkovic thanked the King for the hospitality stressing that the Republic of Serbia and the Kingdom of Sweden have a long tradition of friendly relations, and the two went on to discuss current issues concerning education, culture and the rights of the child.
Gojkovic also met with the President of Stockholm City Council Eva-Louise Erlandsson Slorach. Gojkovic said that besides strengthening relations at the state and parliamentary level it is also important to advance cooperation between the cities and in that context invited the President of Stockholm City Council to visit Belgrade and Serbia.
Gojkovic spoke about how important it is to intensify cooperation between Belgrade and Stockholm in a variety of areas mentioning that the councillors of Belgrade City Hall had in November 2017 ruled to give the name of Swedish writer Astrid Lindgren to a street in the city municipality of Vozdovac.
On her first day of the visit to the Kingdom of Sweden Gojkovic also met with the Chair of the Swedish Parliament’s Committee for EU Affairs Jonas Eriksson and the members of the parliamentary body, and tomorrow she will meet with Parliament Speaker Urban Ahlin, at whose invitation she came to visit Sweden, and Foreign Minister Margot Wallström.
