Gojkovic Meets with Iranian Foreign Minister
The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic met today with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mohammad Javad Zarif. The officials agreed that Serbia and Iran enjoy good and friendly bilateral relations and are ready to deepen parliamentary and economic cooperation.
Gojkovic and Zarif agreed that the two parliaments have taken huge strides forward in the development of relations both at the highest parliamentary level and the level of committees, parliamentary friendship groups and delegations at international parliamentary organizations.
They stressed that there is ample room to develop economic relations and that the abolition of visas would open new doors of cooperation in the fields of business and tourism. The Iranian Foreign Minister said that the re-establishment of a direct flight between Belgrade and Tehran on 8 March, after 28 years, would lend additional impulse to the strengthening of business and touristic ties.
Gojkovic and Zarif expect that the coming period would also bring an increase in trade and new developments in the fields of IT, civil engineering, medicine and others.
Zarif informed the Serbian Assembly Speaker that the Speaker of the Consultative Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ali Larijani would be visiting Serbia in the second half of the year, at her invitation, and thanked Gojkovic for all that she has done to advance relations between the two countries.
