Gojkovic Meets with State Duma Speaker

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic met today with Russian State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin in Saint Petersburg where she is attending the 137th Inter-Parliamentary Union session.

Gojkovic and Volodin agreed that the two countries’ relations, founded on historically close ties between the two nations, are excellent and generally well-developed, which is greatly helped by the two countries’ intensive political dialogue, mentioning that the parliaments would play a significant role in next year’s 180th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

The two parliament speakers were pleased by the unimpeded development of interparliamentary cooperation at all levels, especially by the Russian State Duma - National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Cooperation Commission, another way to intensify relations based on the Interparliamentary Cooperation Agreement, which last met in June in Belgrade.

The two parliament speakers also highlighted the importance of cooperation between the parliamentary delegations to international parliamentary organizations such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and others, and Volodin was grateful for the National Assembly delegation’s support.

Gojkovic thanked the Russian Federation for its sustained and principled support and non-recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo-Metohija i.e. respect of the universal of international law.

Gojkovic and Volodin also discussed other topics of interest such as economic cooperation.
