Gojkovic and Liberian Foreign Minister

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic met today with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Liberia Gbehzohngar Milton Findley and took the opportunity to thank Liberia for the decision to retract its recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo-Metohija.

By retracting the recognition, Liberia joined a group of friendly countries which had also done so, which is very important for Serbia’s dialogue with Pristina.

Gojkovic said that the Liberian Foreign Minister’s visit is very important for the traditionally friendly relations and cooperation we are very proud of, as well as for the mutual desire to deepen and strengthen overall bilateral cooperation, especially in view of the fact that next year marks its 60th anniversary. Gojkovic said meeting at the National Assembly House, the historic edifice that hosted the founding summit of the Non-Aligned Movement, in especially significant in view of Serbia’s strategic goal to strengthen and rekindle both bilateral and multilateral cooperation with African countries, with a special focus on the spheres of education, economy, agriculture, industry, trade, healthcare and culture.

Gojkovic said that the National Assembly is open and ready to develop interparliamentary cooperation at the highest level, as well as the level of working bodies in areas of special interest, as well as within international parliamentary organizations.

Gojkovic praised the many Serbia-Liberia cooperation agreements, stressing that the National Assembly is ready to ratify them and contribute to the overall development of bilateral cooperation.

Liberian Foreign Minister Gbehzohngar Milton Findley said that Liberia would like to advance and concretize cooperation with Serbia in a number of areas, especially economy, agriculture and tourism, and urged to expand parliamentary cooperation as an important segment of relations between the two countries.

Minister of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism Lenn Eugene Nagbe said that Serbia and Liberia have enjoyed traditionally good relations ever since the Non-Aligned Movement and the current improvement of said relations is not a beginning but rather a continuation of their cooperation. He stressed that it is important to discuss concrete options to advance cooperation in the interest of both countries and their people, and that there is mutual interest and good will to do it.
