Gojkovic at Session of Commonwealth of Independent States Interparliamentary Assembly

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic, as President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC) during Serbia’s six-month presidency of the organisation, is taking part in the plenary session of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States in St. Petersburg.

Addressing the parliamentarians, Gojkovic stressed that parliamentary cooperation, development of bilateral contacts between national parliaments and close interaction between regional and international parliamentary assemblies is very significant as it allows for a more efficient pursuit of common goals – establishment of stability and security, strengthening democracy and economic development.

Gojkovic pointed out that the parliamentary component of relations is an important aspect in tackling the many contemporary challenges such as the economic crisis and instability, migration and terrorism, which requires dialogue in order to preserve common values.

Gojkovic said that during Serbia’s six-month presidency of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation a step forward has been taken in the furthering of cooperation with the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States by the signing of a Cooperation Agreement.

The National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia will complete its presidency of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation on 1 December by a plenary session in Belgrade.
