Gojkovic with Albanian Parliament Speaker
The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic met today with Albanian Parliament Speaker Gramoz Ruçi at the 8th Conference of Speakers of Parliament of the Countries of the Western Balkans in Budapest.
On the occasion, Gojkovic said that Serbia is interested in developing good-neighbourly relations with Albania as well as all types of cooperation of mutual interest, stressing that interparliamentary cooperation could give momentum to the development of these relations and help strengthen the stability in the region.
The National Assembly Speaker said that seeing how both Serbia and Albania strive to join the European Union there is ample room to develop cooperation and contacts between their respective working bodies tasked with Euro-integration.
Ruçi agreed that it is the duty of the two parliaments and their members to promote relations between the two countries and that parliamentary cooperation should be intensified as should contacts between the parliamentary friendship groups, mentioning that the Albanian Parliament had recently set up a friendship group with Serbia.
Gojkovic invited the Albanian Parliament Speaker to visit the Republic of Serbia as it would be an opportunity to further discuss the improvement of relations, reminding him that her visit to Albania in 2015 was the first visit by the head of Parliament in the history of the two countries’ relations.
