Head of National Assembly Standing Delegation to PACE at PACE Standing Committee Meeting

At the meeting held in Vienna, the Standing Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) adopted an opinion on the draft Council of Europe Convention against trafficking in human organs.

Aleksandra Djurovic, head of the National Assembly's standing delegation to the CE Parliamentary Assembly, took part in the debate. On the occasion, she reminded the members of the Standing Committee of Dick Marty’s report and resolution on the inhuman treatment of people and illegal trafficking in human organs of January 2011. She said that in August 2011 EULEX set up a Special Investigative Task Force headed by John Clint Williamson as chief prosecutor, but two years later there is no information on the investigation. Djurovic suggested that the Parliamentary Assembly as the body which adopted Dick Marty’s resolution should request that the EULEX Special Investigative Task Force submit an activity report. Even though the Council of Europe is not authorised to conduct an investigation, it can still ask EULEX to speed up the investigation and make it more transparent. “The fact that a crime was committed has been established and we voted on it here. When you vote on something, you have to follow it up with certain measures. Implementation mechanisms are essential and cannot depend on someone’s will”, concluded Aleksandra Djurovic in the debate.
