Head of National Assembly’s Parliamentary Friendship Group with Germany Speaks to German Ambassador
The Head of the National Assembly’s Parliamentary Friendship Group with Germany, Vesna Markovic, received the German Ambassador in Belgrade, Heinz Wilhelm, today.
In the course of the meeting the officials exchanged opinions and initiatives on deepening parliamentary, as well as overall bilateral relations between the two countries. Ambassador Wilhelm was pleased that a Friendship Group with Germany had been created at the National Assembly, and that it has proved to be so numerous. He stressed that the German Embassy is open to cooperation aimed at boosting relations between the two states. Serbia is the key country in the Balkans, said Wilhelm stressing that the anti-corruption efforts and reforms have resulted in obvious positive changes in how Serbia is perceived in Germany.
The Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group, Vesna Markovic, said that although the existing parliamentary cooperation is at a high level there is room for further improvement, which the Parliamentary Friendship Group would contribute to. Exchanging parliamentary practice experiences is very important for the development of parliamentary diplomacy, opined Markovic. She added that investment by German companies and economic cooperation have shown progress, but the trend needs to be expanded onto the sphere of cultural and other types of cooperation.
