Head of the PFG with Italy Meets with Italian Ambassador to Serbia

The Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Italy Dr Aleksandra Tomic met today at the National Assembly with the Italian Ambassador to Serbia H.E. Carlo Lo Cascio to discuss the two countries’ bilateral relations and Serbia’s European integration prospects.

The Head of the PFG with Italy Dr Aleksandra Tomic said that Serbia and Italy are close, friendly countries that enjoy a strategic partnership. Tomic also praised the countries’ high level of parliamentary cooperation as evidenced by the recent exchange of visits of parliamentary delegations.

The Head of the PFG with Italy said that EU accession is Serbia’s strategic goal and the country is committed to reform and harmonization of the national legislation with the European acquis to reach it, as well as to dialogue with Pristina. Aleksandra Tomic thanked Italy for the support it offers Serbia on the path to European integration, stressing that Italy is a strong supporter of a speedy EU accession of Serbia and the countries of the Western Balkans.

Italian Ambassador to Serbia Carlo Lo Cascio said that Italy supports and greatly appreciates Serbia’s dedication to European integration, regional cooperation and dialogue with Pristina. Serbia is the leader in the Western Balkans in the pre-accession talks and the key to the region’s stability, said the Italian Ambassador.

The officials also spoke about economic cooperation and opined that the trade between Serbia and Italy is on a steady and constant rise. They stressed that the more than 600 Italian companies doing business in Serbia have created 25,000 new jobs to the two countries’ mutual benefit. Ambassador Lo Cascio went on to say that Italy is the biggest importer of Serbian products.
