The Head of the National Assembly’s standing delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie, MA Jadranka Jovanovic, addressed the guests at the opening of exhibition "Serbia in Francophonie", in the prestigious hall of the Mediterranean University Centre in Nice, on 14 and 15 April 2025, making the exhibition a great success, being shown for the first time in France.

The exhibition was co-organised by the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and the Nice City Assembly. The Franco-Serbian Friendship Association of Nice also participated in the organisation. The President of the Association, Vladan Radovanovic, greeted the guests and thanked the Nice City Assembly, especially the Deputy Mayor for International Cooperation and Twinning, Christine Amiel, MA Jadranka Jovanovic, and the services of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia for their great work and commitment to have the exhibition organised as a two-day cultural event, on 14 and 15 April 2025, for the first time in France.

Due to the ongoing Second Special Session of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia concerning the election of the new Government of the Republic of Serbia, MA Jadranka Jovanovic addressed the guests via video. In her speech, she stressed that the exhibition "Serbia in Francophonie" was first shown in July 2024 in Montreal, during the 49th Plenary Session of the Francophonie PA. In October 2024, the exhibition was premiered with great success in the House of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia in Belgrade. The two-day exhibition in Nice is its premiere in France. The exhibition highlights some of the personalities who marked certain eras of relations between the member states of La Francophonie with Serbia, as well as significant events in the rich history of relations between Serbia and Francophone countries.

The exhibition featured, for the first time, a proclamation by the French Committee of National Salvation of June 1915, calling on French men and women to help the Serbian people as their brothers and sisters, and emphasising that the Serbs "fell gloriously with their Prince Lazar in Kosovo for the salvation of Europe."

MA Jadranka Jovanovic drew special attention to the scholarship programmes for young and talented students from African countries within the Serbian Government project "The World in Serbia." She added that the exhibition is also an invitation to EXPO 2027, the largest world exhibition hosted by Belgrade. She thanked the Nice City Assembly and the guests, stressing that, as the Head of the National Assembly delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie and the PFG with France, she is committed to strengthening cooperation with the Francophone family.

The guests were addressed by Christine Amiel, Deputy Mayor of the City of Nice, who thanked them for their visit and interest in the exhibition, stressing that multiculturalism is an important feature of the City of Nice which supports all activities in this area. She emphasised the friendship with Serbia and her personal friendship with the Head of the National Assembly’s standing delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie MA Jadranka Jovanovic, adding that Serbia and the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia have sincere friends in the Nice City Assembly.

Honorary Consul of the Republic of Serbia in Nice Philippe Mangeard greeted the guests and said that La Francophonie is not just France, but an international platform for cooperation, for strengthening ties and cultural exchange.

Bernard Assot, advisor at the Department of South of France Regions, who is an expert in language and culture issues, spoke about the importance of language, about French as the language of culture, art and diplomacy, about the Serbian language, which he also speaks, and about multilingualism as a characteristic of the world of culture and art.

Consul General of the Republic of Serbia in France, Andjelka Simsic, on behalf of the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in Paris, thanked the Nice City Assembly and the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia for organising this important exhibition and expressed hope that Serbia will soon become a full member of La Francophonie.

The cultural and artistic part of the programme, featured artists Micheline Van Hautem who sang a song by Jacques Brel, and Anuska Pejovic, who sang Tamo daleko.

The exhibition aroused great interest and attendance from the public, political and cultural life of the City of Nice and the wider region of southern France, with the presence of the Consuls General of Moldova, Switzerland, Russia, the Netherlands, Canada, the Advisor to the Consul General of Algeria, a representative of the Consulate of Romania, a representative of the City of Nice, a former colonel and officer of the Foreign Legion, and representatives of the cultural life of Monaco, Cannes and the entire southern France region, as well as a large number of guests from the Serbian diaspora in the region.
