Laketic Underlines Importance of Adopting Strategic Document for Care of Elderly


The Chairman of the Health and Family Committee Prim. Doc. Dr Darko Laketic spoke at the public debate on the Proposal of the Strategy for the Improvement of the Position of the Elderly in the Republic of Serbia for the period 2024 – 2030.

He underlined the importance of adopting this document, taking into account that since 2015, the Republic of Serbia has not had a strategic document dealing with the issue of the elderly, which, he stressed, makes the discussion on that act even more significant.

"An even more pressing reason why there is a real and objective need to discuss this problem are the results of the census which show that the number of people over 65 in the total share of our population has increased significantly," said Laketic.

The Chairman of the Health and Family Committee believes that two segments are very important in the Strategy Proposal, namely the common and continuous campaign to develop social awareness and strengthen the capacity to provide adequate social protection, as well as health care. He particularly emphasised the importance of adopting a new term, which is healthy and active aging.

Laketic expressed particular satisfaction that the state has shown concern for this part of the population, which deserves it the most.

"We enjoy their fruit of their work, thanks to which we have a more comfortable life today and they deserve to be provided a dignified aging," concluded Laketic.

Minister of Family Welfare and Demography Darija Kisic Tepavcevic also spoke at the gathering and participated in the debate, did the members of the Health and Family Committee, MPs, representatives of ministries and the civil sector.
