Natasa Vuckovic Becomes PACE Rapporteur for Turkey

Today, at the meeting of the PACE Monitoring Committee, Natasa Vuckovic, member of the National Assembly’s standing delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), was elected rapporteur for Turkey.

The rapporteur’s duty is to prepare periodical reports on the member country’s progress in meeting the obligations it assumed by joining the Council of Europe.

“Turkey is an important member of the Council of Europe and is currently facing difficult challenges due to the situation in Syria and the Middle East and the numerous refugees on its territory. It is the biggest Muslim country in the organisation and as such it is very important that it keeps its democracy, rule of law and human rights. That is the mission of the Council of Europe”, said Vuckovic.

Turkey has been in the post-monitoring stage since 2004, and besides Turkey, Bulgaria and Macedonia are currently also in this stage.
