National Assembly Foreign Affairs Committee Meets with Finnish Foreign Affairs Committee

National Assembly Deputy Speaker and Foreign Affairs Committee Chairperson Marina Ragus, and the Committee members, met with a delegation of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Republic of Finland, headed by Committee Chairman Kimmo Kiljunen.

The main topic of the meeting was the preservation, as Ragus said, of the peace and stability of the Western Balkans in the light of recent (geo)political events: with reference to the application of so-called Kosovo to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, as well as the potential Srebrenica Resolution in the United Nations General Assembly.

In addition to the systematic violation of the human and civil rights of Serbs by the Pristina authorities, Ragus pointed out that the facts, which must not be ignored, are also important and refer to obvious violations of the rules and procedures in both the Council of Europe, as well as the United Nations.

Ragu emphasised that the preservation of peace and stability remains the Republic of Serbia’s basic political goal, as well as its commitment to dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina. She underlined the need to set up the Community of Serb Municipalities, which has been eleven years in waiting/ The Serbian side has fulfilled all of its obligations. Pristina, none, reminded Ragus.

The Chairman of the Finnish Foreign Affairs Committee Kimmo Kiljunen stressed that Finland supports the enlargement of the European Union, and it gives full support to Serbia on its European path.

In the course of the meeting, the attending also discussed the cooperation between the two countries and the exchange of bilateral parliamentary visits.

The meeting was attended by National Assembly Deputy Speaker and Committee member of the Committee Edin Djerlek, as well as Committee members Natasa Jovanovic, Biljana Pantic Pilja, Vladimir Djordjevic and Dobrica Veselinovic.
