National Assembly House Hosts Solemn Academy in Honour of Nikola Tesla
The National Assembly House hosted a solemn academy in honour of Nikola Tesla, accompanied by an exhibition presenting his life journey.
The academy was opened by the Chairman of the Committee on the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region, Dragan Stanojevic, who said the event was organised as part of the celebration of the 170th anniversary of the birth of the Serbian man of science.
"We are here today not only to remember the greatness of a genius, but also to confirm the durability of the values Nikola Tesla championed in his work: knowledge, perseverance, freedom and responsibility towards humanity. Tesla was not just a scientist, but a visionary who understood that science has no boundaries and that true discovery serves the common good," said Stanojevic and pointed out that starting from the current legislature, the Committee on the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region has developed the practice of marking the anniversaries of figures from the Serbian academic diaspora in the highest House of the Serbian People, in order to pay tribute and highlight their influence on the historical course of our civilisation and their contribution to the progress of humanity.
He stressed that Tesla's life and work should serve as a reminder that progress is not only about innovation, but about moral responsibility for the way that innovation serves humanity as well. That is exactly why, he was so pleased that the academy is attended by students, in whom the creative spark lives on, and that the academy held today is not just a memory of the past, but also a beacon for the future.
Ambassador Dr Ljiljana Niksic also addressed the attendees in her capacity as the national coordinator for the celebration of the event "Tesla Year, Tesla People – Tesla: Energy of Peace". She greeted everyone who has been working dedicatedly for years to preserve Tesla's legacy, emphasising that in everyday life we often forget who he was and how much we owe him. She stressed that it is necessary to consolidate activities so that the scientific and professional public is the leader in marking this year in international organisations as well.
The academy also featured MP Prof. Dr Mirka Lukic Sarkanovic, nanotechnology expert Prof. Dr Djuro Koruga, Vice President of the Engineering Academy of Serbia Prof. Dr Radoslav Rakovic, Head of the Laboratory for Electromagnetic Field Testing and President of the Tesla Innovation Days Conference at the Nikola Tesla Electrical Engineering Institute Dr Maja Grbic, Director of the Mathematical Grammar School Mirjana Katic, and journalist Aleksandar Vlajkovic. Students of the Smederevo Grammar School and the Mathematical Grammar School Novak Kele and Andrej Drobnjakovic also had the opportunity to address the participants.
The Committee Chairman thanked the institutions, schools, companies and individuals who preserve and affirm Tesla's legacy.
After the academy, the attending visited an exhibition dedicated to the life of Nikola Tesla, which featured posters by Rasa Perin, generated by artificial intelligence, and oil portraits "Tesla Vortex" by academic painter Jelena Bibic. Products bearing the name of Nikola Tesla were also presented. And for the first time, the National Assembly exhibited the cups and medals won by students of the Mathematical Grammar School in competitions in the country and abroad.
