National Assembly PFG with Cuba Meets with Latin American Parliament (Parlatino)
The Parliamentary Friendship Group with Cuba, headed Bojan Torbica, hosted the President of the Latin American Parliament (Parlatino) Rolando Gonzalez Patricio today at the National Assembly House.
In a cordial and constructive conversation, the participants discussed the current political and economic situation in the regions they represent, as well as opportunities for strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
Bojan Torbica stressed that the uninterrupted 120 years of diplomatic relations with Cuba speak in favour of the fact that the two countries enjoy traditionally friendly and brotherly ties. He took the opportunity to thank Patricio for the uncompromising support that Cuba provides to Serbia on the issue of its sovereignty and in the defence of its territorial integrity. Torbica emphasized that Serbia will continue to support Cuba on the international level, regarding the lifting of the embargo by the United States of America which Cuba has been suffering for seven decades.
Patricio thanked the Serbian delegation for the reception and conveyed the greetings of the President of the National Assembly of Cuba and the Head of the PFG with Serbia. He agreed with his colleague that the two countries have very good relations and that Cuba's support for Serbia will not waver. Speaking about parliamentary relations, Patricio invited the delegation to participate in the climate change forum, which will be organised by Parlatino on 5 and 6 June of this year, and the head of the Serbian delegation gladly accepted the invitation, highlighting the global importance of this topic.
They especially focused on improving parliamentary cooperation between the National Assembly and Parlatino, as well as strengthening ties with the National Assembly of Cuba, and the two officials discussed concrete steps toward intensifying the exchange of experiences in areas of common interest.
Representatives of PFG with Cuba, Marko Milosevic, Ugljesa Mrdic, Dr Lidija Sarac, Djordje Komlenski and Darko Jovanovic, highlighted the traditionally friendly relations between Serbia and Cuba, as well as the importance of cooperation with Latin American countries, while the President of Parlatino emphasised the importance of multilateralism and interparliamentary cooperation when addressing global challenges.
Both sides expressed their willingness to continue dialogue and concrete cooperation at all levels, with the aim of strengthening mutual understanding and improving relations.
