National Assembly Speaker Ana Brnabic Meets with Hungarian President Tamas Sulyok

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Ana Brnabic stressed that Serbia truly appreciates Hungary’s strong and continuous support of its European integration process, both at the highest level and through numerous training programmes, developmental and expert assistance. She was especially grateful for the personal commitment of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban who never forgets to stress that the Republic of Serbia must become a member of the EU as soon as possible. She expressed her belief that Serbia’s European integration process can gain a new and much-needed momentum, now that Hungary is presiding over the Council of the European Union.

In the course of the meeting, Speaker Brnabic also thanked Hungary for its principled positions on what are the most important issues for our country, support for Serbia in the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, as well as for the vote against the Resolution on Srebrenica in the United Nations General Assembly. She said that this is another confirmation of the sincere and friendly relations between our two countries.

"Frequent meetings between officials testify to the intensity of the friendly relations between our countries and to the excellent and extensive cooperation, which has reached the highest level in modern history, of which we are extremely proud. We are glad that these relations are accompanied by the development of parliamentary cooperation through frequent successful visits," said the Serbian Parliament Speaker, pointing out that the Serbian Parliamentary Friendship Group with Hungary is one of the largest in the National Assembly.

The Hungarian President expressed gratitude for the exceptional respect for the Hungarian national minority in Serbia and the affection shown by the Serbian government at all levels.

Speaker Brnabic and President Sulyok emphasised the importance of economic cooperation between the two countries and its exceptionally dynamic development that accompanies the exceptional bilateral relations with the expectation of further intensification in the coming period.
