National Assembly Speaker Calls Presidential Elections
The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic Dejanovic signed the Decision on calling an election for President of the Republic and proceeded to address the citizens of Serbia:
“The President of the Republic of Serbia Boris Tadic informed the public and me that he had resigned from the post of President of the Republic. Under these circumstances the Constitution and Law on the President of the Republic transfer part of the duty from the President of the Republic to the National Assembly Speaker. Our country’s institutions will continue to function, and I shall perform the assumed duties conscientiously and in compliance with the laws and our Constitution. One of the duties and obligations stipulated is calling presidential elections, and it falls within my competence. I have just signed the Decision calling these elections and scheduled them for 6 May 2012, the same day when the parliamentarian, provincial and local elections are to be held. I wish the participants of the elections success, and the citizens of Serbia that the results of the elections be in Serbia’s and our best interest”, said the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic Dejanovic.
