National Assembly Speaker Congratulates Newly Appointed Bundestag President

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, sent a letter of congratulations to Julia Klöckner on her appointment as President of the Bundestag of the Federal Republic of Germany.

"On behalf of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and on my own behalf, please allow me to extend my warmest congratulations on your election as President of the Bundestag of the Federal Republic of Germany, and sincere wishes for the successful performance of this responsible duty, as well as for the general progress of your country and the well-being of its citizens.

Your election to this important position, as the fourth woman in the history of the Bundestag, is a particularly important step in affirming women's equality in public and political life – an issue that we in Serbia also consider a priority.

The German Bundestag is a role model for us in many ways, and the contribution that your parliament has made to the unification of Europe, the reconciliation between Germany and France, which is important for Serbia and its neighbours, as well as programmes such as the International Parliamentary Scholarship (IPS), through which many young people from Serbia have had the opportunity to learn about European values, are of invaluable importance.

Allow me to take this opportunity to emphasise the commitment of the Republic of Serbia to European integration and to reiterate Serbia's firm commitment to joining the European Union. I believe that by working together we can contribute to even stronger cooperation between the European Union and Serbia.

In the hope that by the end of 2025 I will be able to host you in Belgrade and with my best wishes for your good health and personal happiness, please accept, dear Mrs. Klöckner, the expressions of my deepest respect."
