National Assembly Speaker Maja Gojkovic Meets with New Zealand Foreign Minister

National Assembly Speaker Maja Gojkovic met today with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand Murray McCully, currently in visit to Serbia.


Gojkovic said that the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand can be considered historic as it is the first of its kind since the normalisation of diplomatic relations and stressed that the two countries may be able to find many a model of cooperation at the political and economic level.
The Parliament Speaker briefed McCully on Serbia’s Euro-integration process stressing that talks with the European Union encourage countries to enter into economic and political reforms, which is what Serbia is doing.
Gojkovic said that Serbia’s goal is to use reform laws, soon to be discussed by the Serbian Assembly, to improve the economic environment and become the most attractive investment destination in the region.
“These are bold changes which will surely give good results and attract the foreign investors’ interest in Serbia, and it is Serbia’s interest to boost employment”, said Gojkovic and invited investors from New Zealand to invest into Serbia.
The New Zealand Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed that the path chosen by the Serbian Government is good for the country and contributes to peace and stability in the region.
McCully said that he would encourage the New Zealand private sector to invest into Serbia, especially into its agriculture and renewable energy sources stressing that the two countries should work on improving their relationship and adding that the visa alleviation is one more step taken toward that goal.
