National Assembly Speaker Meets with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights
The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, met with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk.
The meeting focused on the state of human rights in Serbia, with special emphasis on freedom of the media and expression, the right to peaceful assembly and association, as well as the protection of journalists.
The officials also discussed the impact of artificial intelligence and the digitalisation process on the realisation and protection of human rights.
Brnabic stressed that Serbia is firmly committed to respecting democratic values and the rule of law, and that the National Assembly is a key institution in fostering dialogue, legislative reforms and oversight of the implementation of human rights. She emphasised that she advocates open communication with all relevant stakeholders, including international institutions and civil society, with the aim of strengthening democracy, transparency and better protection of the rights of all citizens.
The officials agreed that it is necessary to continue and improve joint cooperation in areas of common interest, with a special focus on innovative approaches and the exchange of experiences concerning the application of digital technologies in the protection of human rights.
Brnabic expressed her readiness to continue cooperation with the Office of the UN High Commissioner, confident that these dialogues will continue in a constructive spirit.
