National Assembly Speaker Receives Bangladeshi Ambassador in Farewell Visit

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic received the non-resident Ambassador of the People's Republic of Bangladesh Mohammad Shamim Ahsan in farewell visit.

Dr Orlic and Ambassador Ahsan agreed that the relations between the two countries are based on a traditional friendship confirmed during many decades of common history and that we should use these foundations to further develop and raise them to an even higher level.

The National Assembly Speaker pointed to the importance of the political dialogue achieved at the highest level, as well as last year’s visit of the Serbian Foreign Minister to Bangladesh when important agreements were signed, adding that the National Assembly is ready to contribute to the development of bilateral relations from its own end. He also said that there is room for improvement of interparliamentary cooperation, through exchanges of visits of parliamentary delegations and closer ties between the two parliaments’ friendship groups and working bodies.

Ambassador Ahsan spoke of the impressive development Bangladesh achieved in the previous period, which Dr Orlic congratulated him on. He also said that Serbia's state policy is aimed at developing the economy, infrastructure and improving the quality of life of its citizens.

In the course of the conversation, Dr Orlic pointed out that Serbia is focused on preserving peace and stability, saying that the Pristina regime terrorises Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija every day, trying to lead to an open conflict, thereby violating all agreements and everything achieved during the dialogue. "We are asking for the implementation of the Brussels Agreement signed ten years ago and for the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities," he stressed.

These moves by Pristina have been condemned by many countries, said Dr Orlic, added that it is important for Serbia that our friends receive good information, so that they can see and understand the situation in Kosovo-Metohija.

"We will continue to advocate for the preservation of peace and stability for everyone, so that we can dedicate ourselves to the development of our country, as well as the entire region, and build a better future together," said Dr Vladimir Orlic.

Ambassador Ahsan expressed his belief that dialogue would lead to a solution to the situation in Kosovo-Metohija, congratulating Serbia that it carefully nurtures its friendship with numerous traditional friends around the world.

The officials agreed that it is important to continue to work together to increase trade, as well as economic, agricultural and industrial cooperation between Serbia and Bangladesh.
