The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic received letters of condolences and numerous personal messages from parliament speakers in the past few days on the two tragedies that took place in Belgrade on 3 and 4 May 2023.
Among the first to send messages were Hungarian Parliament Speaker Laszlo Kever, Slovene National Assembly Speaker Urska Klakocar Zupancic, Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia Talat Xhaferi, Bulgarian National Assembly Speaker Rosen Zhelyazkov and the Speaker of the Azerbaijani Milli Mejlis Sahiba Gafarova.
On behalf of the Hungarian Parliament and his own behalf, Laszlo Kever extended deepest sympathies and sincere condolences to the National Assembly Speaker and the families of the victims of the tragedies in "Vladislav Ribnikar" elementary school and near Mladenovac. In her letter to Dr Orlic, the Slovene National Assembly Speaker states: "Our thoughts are with you and with all the families who lost their loved ones." In his letter of condolences, the Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia said the following: "At this moment, the citizens of North Macedonia and, I am certain, the entire region, sympathize with all those affected by these tragedies. Together, we pray that events such as these will never happen again, anywhere." In his letter, the Bulgarian National Assembly Speaker emphasised the support of Bulgaria and its people in the difficult times for our country, saying: "We express our friendly and human empathy for the citizens of Serbia. Rest assured that we mourn with you in Bulgaria. My deepest condolences to the victims’ families and relatives." Romanian Senate President Alina Gorghiu also sent a message of support and condolences for the pain of the citizens of the Republic of Serbia.
At the Summit of Speakers of BSEC Member States and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation, the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Republic of Turkey Mustafa Sentop and PABSEC Secretary General Asaf Hajiyev extended their deepest condolences, as did many speakers of parliaments attending the Summit.
The Chairman of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Zvizdic, Chairman of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina Nikola Spiric, as well as the Vice President of the Republic of Srpska Davor Pranjic also sent letters of condolences.
In a joint letter, European Parliament’s Standing Rapporteur for Serbia Vladimir Bilcik and the member of the EP Delegation to the European Union-Serbia Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee Matjaz Nemec, expressed their sympathies for the innocent victims of the horrific crimes: "In these difficult moments, we sympathise with the citizens of Serbia and the families of the victims."
Numerous ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corps in Belgrade, as well as representatives of the Serbian community in the region and heads of local self-governments in the surrounding countries, sent letters to the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia expressing their sincere condolences and words of support to the families of the dead, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
