National Assembly Speaker Receives UK Parliamentary Delegation
The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, MA Nebojsa Stefanovic, received a delegation of the UK Parliament, headed by Karen Lumley, Head of the Friendship Group with Serbia.
Speaker Stefanovic expressed his pleasure at the meeting and readiness to strengthen bilateral cooperation with a special focus on the interparliamentary and economic sphere.
Stefanovic stressed that the exchange of experience via interparliamentary cooperation is a very important tool for the strengthening of the parliament’s priority functions, besides its supervisory role and Euro-integration process.
Stefanovic said that the Friendship Group with the UK is among the most important ones, expressing his expectation that the cooperation between the two countries’ parliamentarians would contribute to the development of closer relations.
The National Assembly Speaker opined that the assembly committees should assume more duties, not only as regards the control of the executive, but also through a more active participation in the creation of prerequisites conducive to the improvement of economic cooperation.
Both sides agreed that Serbia has achieved progress in the implementation of reform and fight against corruption and crime, thus creating a positive environment for new investments.
Ms. Karen Lumley highlighted the Euro-integration process as an important field of parliamentary activity, deeming that Serbia has the capacities to continue said process.
The officials agreed that the two parliaments’ friendship groups should cooperate more and, through specific activities, achieve results which would contribute the two countries’ prosperity.
