National Assembly Speaker Talks to German Parliamentarians
National Assembly Speaker Maja Gojkovic received a delegation of the German Bundestag headed by the chair of the South-East Europe Parliamentary Group Peter Weiss.
Gojkovic stressed that Serbia is dedicated to reform processes and Euro-integration, and briefed the German MPs on the procedure and dynamics of the National Assembly’s work as regards the harmonisation of domestic legislation with the EU acquis, stating that it is Serbia’s goal to complete the process by the end of the current Government and Parliament’s mandate.
The National Assembly Speaker said that the opening of one of the negotiations chapter would lend considerable impetus to Serbia’s European integration.
By doing this, Gojkovic said, the European Union would be sending a signal to the Serbian citizens, who clearly endorsed Euro-integration in the last elections, that the Union needs Serbia and that the EU is not tired of enlargement.
The German delegation also comprised friendship group vice chairs Josip Juratovic and Alexander Neu, as well as members Heinz Wiese, Dirk Vopel and Ute Finckh-Kremer.
