National Assembly Speaker at Conference World in 2023

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic greeted the participants of the conference “The World in 2023”, organized by Color Media Communications and hosted by the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.

Referring to the events in the world and the current situation in Kosovo-Metohija, at the horrible terror faced by the Serbian people in the southern province, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia opined that it is insensible to make predictions for the future. "Every day is a new ocean of uncertainty, pain and problems. The people of Kosovo-Metohija ask for the return of peace with calm and dignity, for the future, their trampled rights, things that should be taken for granted anywhere in Europe today. And in today's world, we see that respect for signed agreements, international law, even the founding Charter of the UN is no longer the rule, but the exception. In these impossible conditions, Serbia, led by its President Aleksandar Vucic, is trying to save its people and is desperately fighting to preserve peace," said Dr Orlic.

Recapitulating the year nearing its end, he recalled the contribution of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia to the improvement of the rule of law through the referendum that was conducted, as well as the implementation of the election process in 2022, with the best election conditions and the highest democratic standards in history. "In these elections, through the strong support embodied in a record 2,250,000 votes for President Aleksandar Vucic, the citizens unequivocally signalled what kind of state policy they expect for the current year, as well as for the future," said the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.

He referred to the economic successes Serbia achieved in the current year, announcing that, despite the challenges faced by the whole world, continuity will be maintained in the increase of minimum wage, pensions, salaries in the public sector, construction of the most important infrastructure projects, bringing in of new investments. "Serbia will welcome 2023 as a financially stable state, with low public debt, better than most in that sense, with an outstretched hand for cooperation and dialogue to everyone. A free, sovereign, independent Serbia will pursue the policy the people have given their support for. At a time when hardly anyone dares to make any promises, we can promise one thing - we will fight," concluded Dr Orlic.
