National Assembly Speaker at PABSEC 30th Anniversary Summit of Speakers of Parliaments

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic took part in the 30th Anniversary Summit of Speakers of the Parliaments of the Member States the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC) today.

PABSEC President and Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Republic of Turkey Mustafa Sentop and PABSEC Secretary General Asaf Hajiyev extended their deepest condolences to the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and the citizens of Serbia on the tragedy in Belgrade, as did several speakers of parliaments in their speeches.

In his address, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia emphasised the importance of improving the existing and establishing new cooperation mechanisms between BSEC member states, as well as the commitment of the Republic of Serbia to the development and strengthening of friendly relations within the organisation. "Just as the President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic stressed in his message at the PABSEC plenary session in Belgrade, the duty of the PABSEC countries is to strengthen mutual ties in all key areas, with the hope that their joint work will contribute to a better life for the citizens and the progress of all our countries," said Dr Orlic. At the Summit in Ankara, the participants confirmed their commitment to regional cooperation and the principles embedded in the Declaration on the establishment of the PABSEC - peace, stability, prosperity.

In a solemn ceremony, PABSEC Vice-President Igor Becic presented the speakers of parliaments, including the Serbian Assembly Speaker, with the PABSEC Medal of Honour, which is awarded for outstanding contributions to the Organisation’s activities and the development of regional cooperation.

On the sidelines of the Summit, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia met with the host, the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Republic of Turkey, and on the occasion they both expressed satisfaction with the frequent meetings and extraordinary economic cooperation between Serbia and Turkey, confirming readiness for their further improvement. "Best political relations between the two countries are based on mutual trust and friendship of the presidents of the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Turkey, Aleksandar Vucic and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, followed by the representatives of our countries at all other levels," Sentop said. The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia took the opportunity to congratulate the host on the organisation of the Summit and to thank him for the hospitality.

At the Summit, Dr Orlic also met with the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, as well as with the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Kingdom of Morocco, Rachid Talbi El Alami. The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia informed them all in detail about the extremely difficult situation for the Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija, the terror to which they are exposed every day, stressing that Pristina is openly threatening the dialogue and has been ignoring the obligation to form the Community of Serb Municipalities for more than a decade. As he said, Belgrade remains committed to preserving dialogue and devoted to the policy of peace and stability. "Armenia remains consistent in its position that it does not recognise e so-called "Kosovo", said Simonyan, while the leader of the Moroccan parliament once again confirmed his support for Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, which Dr Orlic thanked them for.

In addition to the Summit of Speakers of Parliaments, the Republic of Turkey also hosted the 61st PABSEC General Assembly, attended by the members of the Serbian Assembly’s standing delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation, consisting of: head of delegation MA Igor Becic and delegation members Jasmina Obradovic, Milija Miletic, Sanja Jefic Brankovic and Vojislav Vujic.
