National Assembly Speaker at Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament
The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic is taking part in the Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament, where women parliament speakers from 35 countries are discussing the preservation and improvement of security, economic development, gender equality and global challenges such as terrorism and climate change.
The National Assembly Speaker underlined Serbia’s solidarity with its neighbours and other European countries, as well as with partners at the global level in seeking adequate solutions to regional and global issues, such as the migrant crisis, and added that the country would continue to pursue this constructive approach.
“The response to common challenges that can jeopardise peace and security has to be a common one, because it is the best way to protect the interest of each country”, said Gojkovic, adding that due to their crucial position in democratic societies parliaments play an important role in the maintenance of peace and security because, through interparliamentary dialogue, they promote cooperation between states and nations, a goal to which the Serbian parliament is fully committed.
