National Assembly Speaker with Romanian Senate President on Sidelines of Conference in Prague
On the sidelines of the EU Conference of Speakers in Prague, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic met with the President of the Senate of Romania Alina Gorghiu.
The Serbian National Assembly Speaker said that Serbia deeply appreciated Romania's consistent position of non-recognition of the unilaterally declared independence so-called "Kosovo", stressing that such a position upholds international law and its principles. He pointed to the difficult position and the daily endangerment of the basic security of the Serbian people in Kosovo-Metohija by Pristina, as well as its brazen demand for rewards in the form of membership in international organisations.
Alina Gorghiu reiterated that Romania respects the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Serbia and that its strong support for our country’s European path would continue. She pointed out that Romania is ready to share its experiences with Serbia and provide all necessary assistance within the European integration process.
In the course of the meeting, the officials discussed the intensification of interparliamentary cooperation, especially through the work of parliamentary friendship groups and working bodies, along with the willingness to exchange visits at the high and top-level.
The officials also focused on the possibilities for improving economic cooperation and praised the work on the most important infrastructure projects realised jointly by Serbia and Romania.
