Speaking on the main topic of the General Debate: “The Parliaments of the BSEC Member States: Common Challenges of the Economic, Environmental, Cultural and Social Development - Reality and Vision”, the Head of the National Assembly standing delegation MA Igor Becic said that the Republic of Serbia is committed to the economic and social reforms launched by then Serbian Prime Minister and now President Aleksandar Vucic. The reforms have contributed to economic growth and stability, as well as the GDP rate and investment, as confirmed by the IMF and the World Bank. The National Assembly contributed to the development and reform processes by being a good partner to the Government and ratifying a series of reform laws to help improvement the citizens’ living standards. He especially emphasized the importance of the Law on Financial Support to Families with Children and the Law on Dual Education passed in 2017. He added that the National Assembly still has a lot to do to continue the ongoing reforms, harmonize the national legislation with EU acquis and consider the negotiating positions for the EU accession talks, for which, he added, Serbia is well prepared.

Becic highlighted the importance of maintaining regional stability and said that Serbia firmly believes in finding common regional interests. Seeing how economic development contributes to regional development Serbia has launched a series of initiatives to improve connectivity within the region especially economically through infrastructural projects and by encouraging investments to make the region more attractive for economic development.

The 51st PABSEC plenary also tackled the development of digital economy, cybersecurity, as well as multiculturalism and cultural cooperation in the BSCE member states.

In the course its stay in Tirana the National Assembly delegation headed by MA Igor Becic also had a series of bilateral meetings.
