National Assembly Standing Delegation at 61st PABSEC General Assembly in Ankara

The standing delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC), headed by MA Igor Becic, took part in the 61st Plenary Session of the PABSEC General Assembly in Ankara, Republic of Turkey, 4-5 May 2023.


In addition to the standing delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, the session was also attended by the delegations of the parliaments of Azerbaijan, Albania, Georgia, Armenia, Moldova, Romania, the Russian Federation, North Macedonia, Turkey and Ukraine, as well as numerous observers and guests.

The Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Republic of Turkey Prof. Dr Mustafa Sentop addressed the attending at the opening of the 61st PABSEC Plenary Session and extended condolences to the citizens of Serbia and the families of the victims of the tragedy in "Vladislav Ribnikar" elementary school in Belgrade. The Turkish Parliament Speaker stressed that the two nations share friendly ties, thanking Serbia for its assistance in the wake of the disastrous earthquakes in the Republic of Turkey.

PABSEC Vice-President MA Igor Becic had, during the 30th Anniversary Summit of Speakers of the Parliaments of BSEC Member States, presented the attending speakers of parliaments, with the PABSEC Medal of Honour, which is awarded for outstanding contributions to the Organisation’s activities and the development of regional cooperation. Mr. Becic presented the Medal to the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Republic of Turkey Prof. Dr Mustafa Sentop, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Alen Simonyan and the Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia Talat Xhaferi. The decision that the Medal be presented by the Head of the Serbian National Assembly’s standing delegation to PABSEC, MA Igor Becic significant recognition of the work and reputation of the standing delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation.

The Head of the Serbian National Assembly’s standing delegation to PABSEC, MA Igor Becic took part in the meeting of the Bureau and the PABSEC Standing Committee, as well as chaired part of the plenary session during the general debate and the election of the Assembly’s highest dignitaries.

Jasmina Obradovic, member of the National Assembly’s standing delegation to PABSEC and vice-chair of the PABSEC Cultural, Educational and Social Affairs Committee, took part in the general debate on “The Role of Parliamentary Diplomacy in Changing Global Dynamics: Development, Peace, Stability”. Obradovic stressed that parliamentary diplomacy plays a key role in directing global dynamics, because nations, even the most powerful ones, cannot tackle alone the complex challenges of today. That is why regional organisations are an important forum for multilateral diplomacy whose global importance is on a constant rise.

The Republic of Turkey, who hosted the 61st PABSEC General Assembly and took over the PABSEC presidency from the Republic of Serbia in December 2022, handed over the presidency of PABSEC in the second half of 2023 to Ukraine.

The National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia was represented by PABSEC Vice-President MA Igor Becic as head of the delegation, and Jasmina Obradovic, Milija Miletic, Sanja Jefic Brankovic and Vojislav Vujic as members.
