National Assembly Standing Delegation at Central European Initiative Strengthening Convention 3rd Meeting

National Assembly delegation took part in the 3rd meeting dedicated to the drafting of the Convention for the Strengthening of the Central European Initiative in Rome, 5 July 2024.

The National Assembly delegation comprised Jovan Palalic and Ana Miljanic. In addition to the representatives of the National Assembly, on behalf of our country the meeting was attended by Zoran Jovanovic, CEI deputy coordinator in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Milica Vujovic Royle, First Advisor at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Maja Cosic First Advisor at the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in Italy.

At the meeting, the attending adopted recommendations for the strengthening of the Central European Initiative.

The key points include strengthening the CEI’s political role in the Eurointegration of the countries aspiring to membership in the European Union; strengthening relations with EU institutions including setting up a CEI office in Brussels so as to facilitate dialogue and implementation of projects; as well as strengthening the CEI secretariat.

In his address MP Jovan Palalic highlighted the importance of EU enlargement and the role of the Central European Initiative in the process, especially for the Balkan countries for which it provides, in addition to the Berlin Process and Open Balkans, yet another important forum for dialogues aimed at resolving regional open issues. He added that Serbia supports the strengthening of the organisation and pushes for a speedier integration process without double standards.

Palalic also used the opportunity to thank the CEI secretariat for respecting Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty as envisioned by UN Security Council Resolution 1244 and the Constitution of the Republic of Serbia, despite some countries stance on these issues. “Serbia is always ready and open for dialogue, led by its national interests”, said Palalic.
