National Assembly Standing Delegation at PACE June Session
The standing delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) will take part in the organisation’s third regular session, to be held from 25 to 29 June 2012 in Strasbourg.
At the session, the PACE will deliberate on several reports on the impact of the financial and economic crisis, and will include a joint debate on the risks to democracy “Democracy at risk: the role of citizens and of the State today”.
Among other things, the PACE Third Session will address the situation of human rights defenders in Council of Europe member states, multiple discrimination against Muslim women in Europe and honouring of obligations and commitments by Montenegro. Milos Aligrudic, member of the delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, will be the rapporteur on the opinion on the report “Position of Roma migrants in Europe”, on the behalf of the Committee on Political Affairs and Democracy, which the PACE will consider on Thursday, 28 June.
The PACE members will be addressed by the Albanian and Croatian Prime Ministers, Sali Berisha and Zoran Milanovic respectively. Italian Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi di Sant’Agata and President of Tunisia’s Constituent Assembly Mustapha Ben Jaafar, who will take part in the debate on the political transition in Tunisia, will also address the PACE.
In the course of the June session, the PACE members will elect eight judges to the European Court of Human Rights and a new Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe.
The National Assembly’s delegation, comprising MPs Milos Aligrudic, Natasa Vuckovic and Elvira Kovacs, will be headed by Prof. Dr Dragoljub Micunovic, Head of the delegation.
